The Trash Pack: Contest 08/06/14 to 09/26/14

\I've been spotty with keeping reviews and the podcast up to date, but I do appreciate anyone who has taken the time to listen to an episode, read a review or even share my work with someone else. That's why I'd like to show some appreciation to one lucky reader. I've been teasing the thought of a contest on our Facebook page for sometime now, and here's the deal:

In order to win over 30 DVDs, 30 VHS, a few action figures, comics and more you'll have to comment below with the name of your favorite video store, existing or not. The only other rule is you have to like our Facebook page. It's that simple! This contest will run until Friday, September 26th. I'll then collect all entries, and figure out a winner at random!

Now, these are all the DVDs that will be included, but more VHS will be added once I find some stuff I highly enjoyed, or a couple of more obscurer titles. Right now there's a stack of Punisher mags I have included, but I'll be putting some more horror comics in.

Make sure to like our Facebook page to stay up-to-date on any additions to the Trash Pack contest!
Thanks for reading!

*New Additions 08/26/2014*

We're a month away from the contest ending, so I've added some more stuff to the pack. Here are detailed images of all that is included!

Video Joes in Middletown NY. I was exposed to the big box sleaziness of The Killing of Satan, Axe, House of Horror, and The Slayer! RIP Video Joes! I will never forget your worn carpet, wood paneling, and musty cardboard smell.

Video Images. Lots of great memories there.

Videodrome in Atlanta. I saw many of my favorite horror flicks thanks to them.

Savage, Shawn said...

Mooooovies. It had the largest horror section I've ever seen, and 5-for-5-for-5. Eventually Movie Gallery bought it out, and then they folded, so now it's an empty building next to a B-Dubs.

James Harris grindhousehorror@gmail.com and my favorite video store was Long Valley Video in Long Valley NJ. It was an educational institution for me as a young viewer.

Front Row Seat in Farmington, NM and Cortez, CO. I grew up on these stores. The horror section was massive and had some of the most obscure movies. Fond memories of countless hours spent there in my youth. Scarecrow Video in Seattle is a nice throwback to the old vhs boom days still in operation. I love spending hours in there just looking around. It really takes me back.

I'll catch hell for this, but my favorite would be the Blockbuster Video that I managed in Sioux Falls, SD. I made sure that it had a horror section that rivaled anyone in town!

my first job in high school was for our local mom 'n pop shop, Video Showplace. i'd been renting there for nearly a decade before that; easily the best video-store i've ever known.

also, goddamn, Mr. Boogedy.

My favorite store was Riverside Video in Danville Va. Even after VHS had been phased out in a lot of video stores, he still had thousands of VHS available. Them days, man.

A-Z Video in York, PA. It was dark and they had a great horror selection all along the back wall including a ton of big boxes and obscure titles that wish I had now.

I never lived in a place with a real dedicated video store after I was old enough to buy my own movies so my favorites are all places that sell other things too: CD Exchange & Hot Poop in Walla Walla WA (record stores) & the many insane and cheap thrift stores of WW and Milton Freewater OR where a Christian missionary business wont hesitate to sell you a copy of Ichi the Killer or a VHS that says Satan's Cheerleaders right there on the front as long as they make a buck.

My favorite was VIDEO VIDEO in Morristown, NJ. Had a great Indie/Arthouse selection and a large collection of Pin Ball Games including my favorite MEDIEVAL MADNESS. It is close now. :(

My all time favorite place in the whole world was VideoJack in Livonia,Mi. I grew up there renting Troll and Purple People Eater at every chance I had. It later turned into Chart Hits Video, which was pretty damn rad too! My then girlfriend at the time(now wife), would always hang out in there like it was a arcade. A big ol joint and a hour reliving better times looking at vhs, nes, snes, etc. All for rent or sale! Now, it is a Happy Dentistry or some shit. My wife still wears the Chart Hits hoodie all the time. She found it years later at Salvation Army.

We had a "mum and pop" shop up the hill from where we used to live. It was tiny, and they had little bins with flick-through covers, you took the one you wanted to the cashier, and they'd fetch the video from the back. We didn't go there often, but when we did it was magical, because it was unlike any of the other video shops. We moved from that area 5 years ago, so I've got no clue if it's still there.

Rent A Flick in Columbus, OH. Vivid childhood memories of Pumpkinhead card board stand ups, the sex scene from Lawnmower Man on a wall of TVs and renting Mega Man 2 weekly.

I grew up with my mom working in a locally owned video store called J's Video. Spending day in and day out there until I was about 9 or so (when it closed down) really warped me into the weirdo I am today, and I'll always love it. I've spent years just trying to place titles to the lurid imagery I remember from the Horror section in particular. Loads of beautiful big boxes!

My favorite video store was Midnight Video in Brooklyn, Ohio. I made good friends with the owner Jay and half of his store was Horror movies. He also let me into the basement and take all the horror posters he had scattered on the floor. I was a kid in a candy store!

Kouch Potato video and Circus Video. Both used to be in Jasper, IN. Kouch (sic) Potato was also a buy/sell/trade video game store. My friends and I would spend many hours there, hanging with the owners. Circus Video had the biggest selection in town. Found numerous bizarre stuff there. It also featured a pizzeria with arcade games (basically a rip off of Chuckee Cheese). It also had the area's biggest porn selection! How they got away with that, I will never know.

Double Play in my home town of Petersburg Indiana. It was where I grew up renting tapes and video games a couple times a week.

When I was about 20, the apartment above it became my first place when I moved out of my parents. While living there I also worked a couple hours a week at the store helping out.

So many fond memories at that place.

Can I add I still own 2 working VCRS??
